This is an example of the US Springfield Model 1903A1 National Match Rifle, manufactured in 1937 and later purchased by the US Marine Corps. This rifle is equipped with a 8-power Unertl "USMC-SNIPER" Marine Corps telescopic sight with an Unertl black anodized aluminum body with the number "1623" on the body (it is believed that the bullets serial numbers started with "1000"). . . The scope has good cable ties and a steel lens cap. Several US Model 1903A1 NM rifles were converted to sniper configuration and fitted with Unertl telescopic sights by the Marines at the Philadelphia yard. 1943. This rifle has standard Springfield NM production features which include: (1) star gauge barrel, (2) polished bolt, receiver and follower rails, (3) matching serial number on bolt body in pencil and on side under seal. from the stock just before the lower sling swivel mount. The Patridge undercut blade front sight is fitted under a sheet metal handguard, the barrel is marked "SA/3-38". Weld blocks were installed on the barrel and front receiver ring, a professional cutout was made in the handguard to accommodate the former and the latter to partially cover the receipt stamps. Scope body shows 98% blue with mild wear, with clear optics and solid reticle. Mechanically excellent.
